Christopher Lee

Artist Christopher Lee was born and raised in Harlem, New York, and received a full scholarship to Dalton Schools Incorporated, in New York He attended Rhode Island School of Design for three years, and left the program in 1983 in pursuit of the vital contemporary art scene of the Lower East Side in New York. During this time Lee worked for Christie’s Fine Arts within the catalogue and shipping department. He then served in the Coast Guard for four years on the East End of Long Island where he became engaged in the Hampton art scene. The artist now works and lives in Long Island City, and states that through the process of his work he is:
“Developing a premise and point of departure, working through the apparent contradictions of the Western Art canon and negritude as a negation and opposition. 'I like to do pieces that have a tension between the two aesthetics.'"
